Peter Thuring studied photography and film at the Art Acadamie St Joost in Breda Holland, before establishing his own photographic studio in London, and working in Paris and Brussels. After a move to the remote West of Scotland to pursue his interest in woodwork, he continued his career at West Dean College, West Sussex, and was a part-time tutor there in the mid-Nineties on the Antique Furniture Restoration course.
His Conservation company was established in 1978, and specialises in the conservation and restoration of period furniture, picture frames, pier glasses, carved and decorated objects and architectural gilding where
centuries old methods and recipes are used for oil and water gilding and the many and varied finishes and patinas on wood and decorated polychrome surfaces.
Peter’s work has included important objects for The National Trusts many grand houses; Spencer House in London; for the Royal Collection at Windsor Castle and for Institutions and Private Collections worldwide.
In this digital age, he has also taken a keen interest in sharing his work experience with a younger generation, and in particular to celebrate the hands-on experience and satisfaction of the woodcarving process.
